Meet Jaylon Biddle: 2025 FOSSI Scholar Attending Prairie View A&M University

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, my name is Jaylon Biddle. I’m from Houston, Texas, and I graduated with the Class of 2024 from Legacy School of Sport Sciences. On the court, I play as a shooting guard and small forward, standing about 6’2” and 175 lbs. I’ve always worked hard to balance athletics and academics, and I am currently pursuing chemical engineering at PVAMU.

FOSSI: What moment or experience sparked your love for STEM?

My love for STEM really started when I was a kid watching How It’s Made with my grandfather. He always had it on, and I’d just sit there amazed at how things like engines, food, or electronics were put together. It blew my mind that everything had a process and a purpose behind it. That curiosity stuck with me. Over time, I realized I didn’t just want to watch how things are made, I wanted to be the one figuring out how to make them better. That’s what planted the seed for my passion in STEM, and it’s still what drives me toward engineering today.

For me, it’s not just about having a career, it’s about leaving an impact that lasts.

FOSSI: What kind of impact do you hope to be making ten years from now?

Ten years from now, I see myself working as a chemical engineer, hopefully on projects that make a real difference, like cleaner energy or safer ways to produce the things people use every day. I want to be part of something that helps the world move forward in a positive way. At the same time, I want to be in a position to give back, whether that’s mentoring younger students or just showing kids who come from backgrounds like mine that they can make it in STEM too. For me, it’s not just about having a career, it’s about leaving an impact that lasts.

FOSSI: What are some surprising or unique facts about you?

One surprising fact about me is that even though I’m really focused on STEM and basketball, I also love to draw in my free time — it’s a way for me to be creative and clear my head. Also, when it comes to basketball, even though I’m competitive on the court, I’m just as serious about academics — I graduated with a 3.9 GPA while balancing sports and school.
