FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?
A significant role model in my life is Mrs. White, my freshman-year "Intro to Engine Design" teacher. Initially, engineering was not on my radar, but Mrs. White, a Black woman teaching engineering, sparked my interest and completely reshaped my future. Her impact on my life and intended career has been unmeasurable. She ignited a competitive drive in me that had been buried and helped me discover a genuine love for engineering.
Her confidence and demeanor reassured me that I could not only succeed but thrive in this field. Over the past four years, she has continued to push and guide me to pursue engineering with passion, encouraging me to attend conferences, secure internships, and earn awards. Her presence and support have inspired me to become a role model for other Black and Brown girls, showing them that they too can succeed in STEM.
